The Lingo Instructions

Objective:

Get your team to guess the phrase before time runs out - without any language directly on the card

Number of Players:

2-8 players (ideal for small groups or parties)

Divide into teams

Materials Needed:

- A timer (optional, recommended time limit: one minute per turn)

- A scorecard and pen for keeping track of points

Setup:

1. Shuffle the deck of phrase cards and place them face down in the center

2. Divide players into teams

3. Decide on the number of rounds or set a point target to determine the game's length

Game Play:

1. Rounds:

   - The clue-giver draws the top card from the deck without showing it to the other players

   - A 60 second timer starts once the clue-giver has selected the card

   - Player is to continue the round as long as their team keeps guessing correctly

2. Hints:

   - The player must get their team to guess the phrase by giving clues

            The player CAN'T:

Say any part of the phrase

Use rhyming hints with the actual word

            Directly spell out the word

Use gestures to act out the word (optional)

            The player CAN:

Describe the meaning of the phrase

            Use synonyms, examples, or categories

Say what it's not (Not your mom, but your other parent)

3.  Point System:

   - The team earns a point for every correct guess within their time limit

   - If no one guesses the phrase, no points are awarded and the card is placed at the bottom of the deck to be pulled by another player

   - There’s no penalty for wrong guesses, and the team may guess the same phrase as many times as they like within the time limit.

   - Once per round, the clue-giver may pass a tough phrase to a teammate, keeping the same card and using only the remaining time. The original clue-giver cannot while that card is in play, and correct guesses by the new player earns only half a point.

5. Winning the Game:

   - The game continues until a player reaches the predetermined point score or until all the cards have been used.

   - The player/team with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
