The Lingo Instructions

Number of Players:

2-8 players (ideal for small groups or parties)

Materials Needed:

- A timer (optional, recommended time limit: one minute per turn).

- A scorecard and pen for keeping track of points.

Setup:

1. Shuffle the deck of phrase cards and place them face down in the center.

2. Decide on the number of rounds or set a point target to determine the game's length.

3. Choose a player to be the first clue-giver. The role of clue-giver will rotate clockwise after each turn.

Game Play:

1. **Starting the Round**:

   - The clue-giver draws the top card from the deck without showing it to the other players.

   - The timer starts once the clue-giver has selected the card.

2. Hints:

   - The clue-giver provides verbal clues about the phrase without saying any part of it directly. No gestures or written clues are allowed.

3. Guessing the Phrase:

   - Players shout out their guesses to try and identify the phrase.

   - There's no penalty for wrong guesses, and players can guess as many times as they like within the time limit.

4.  Point System:

   - If a player guesses the phrase correctly within the time limit, the guesser or team earns the point.

   - If no one guesses the phrase, no points are awarded. The card is placed at the bottom of the deck.

5. Passing a Turn:

   - The clue-giver may choose to pass on a difficult phrase once per turn, drawing a new card to replace it. However, this results in a one-point deduction from the clue-giver's score.

6. Winning the Game:

   - The game continues until a player reaches the predetermined point score or until all the cards have been used (for a set number of rounds).

   - The player/team with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
